In our last post, we dove into a little back story about shrub, its awesomeness and why, clearly, everyone should make it. But let’s get to the good stuff. The drinking part of a drinking vinegar. *woooooo*
If you want to get the low-down on what shrub is, how to make it, and the recipe that we’ll be using for cocktails today, click here, POMEGRANATE SHRUB 3 WAYS, PART ONE and we’ll route you back to the original post.
But now that you’ve educated yourself, know that shrub is great in a cocktail (for many reasons) and you have your killer concoction made and ready for action, let’s talk about a couple cocktails (and mocktails) you can create using this magical elixir.
We love seasonal recipes here. It’s part of our title, after all, so when I was thinking about cocktails for my beautiful, seasonal, pomegranate shrub, my mind shot immediately to grapefruit. Another winter loving fruit, you can easily find grapefruit in your juice section or, be a hero, and ream that citrus yourself! Personally, for sake of time and quantity, I always buy a bottle of the unsweetened grapefruit from the juice aisle and call it good.
Here’s two cocktail recipes, using grapefruit juice and your pomegranate shrub. Yum.
- 2 oz White Rum
- .5 oz Pomegranate Shrub
- 4 oz Grapefruit juice
- Soda water
Combine rum, pomegranate shrub, and grapefruit juice in glass filled with ice. Top with soda water. Garnish with slice grapefruit or candied citrus.

- 2 oz Silver Tequila
- .5 oz Pomegranate Shrub
- 1 lime wedge
- 2 teaspoons pomegranate arils
- 2 teaspoons thin slices fresh ginger
- 2 oz pomegranate juice
- 2 oz grapefruit juice
- soda water
Muddle pomegranate arils, ginger, and lime wedge in cocktail mixer. Add tequila, pomegranate and grapefruit juice into cocktail mixer with 3 ice cubes. Shake well. Strain into glass filled with ice. Top with Soda water. Garnish with lime wedge
Cranberry Shrub Cocktail
Coming in as my second favorite mixer, cranberry juice combines perfectly with a shrub. And tis the season to find fresh cranberries in your local grocery store! Cranberries’ bitter, mixed with shrub’s acidic, and sugar combine to make a killer cocktail. Here’s an easy twist on a classic.
- 2 oz vodka
- .5 oz cointreau
- .5 oz pomegranate shrub
- .75 oz cranberry juice
- .25 oz fresh lime juice
Fill cocktail mixer with ice and add vodka, cointreau, shrub, cranberry and lime juice. Shake well. Strain into martini glass. Garnish with fresh cranberry.
And don’t fret, it takes two seconds to go from cocktail to mocktail with shrub. Just grab your favorite soda water, sprite, 7-up, even juice! Combine ice, ½ ounce of pomegranate shrub, and your mixer of choice, sip, and walk away. That easy.
